Lazy One of Hot Springs expected to open Labor Day weekend
A major renovation of the 100-year-old building that houses Lazy One of Hot Springs, a retail shop specializing in sleepwear and loungewear for the whole family, including pets, is expected to open its doors on Labor Day weekend, a news release said.
Lazy One proprietors Kathy and Lance Merriott are "thrilled to showcase their comfort wear in the 1,980-square-foot store at 911 Central Ave. among all the rustic trappings of the environmentally-conscious renovation," it said.
"I'm a big environmentalist tree hugger, and I wanted to keep with the history of the building and the charm of all the original, cool features. Even the baseboards around everything were reclaimed from downstairs. The display case, too," Kathy Merriott said in the release.
Leaving Jonesboro and moving to Hot Springs was a "big leap" for the couple and their two Shihpoos, Bella and Jake, "but it is a lifestyle change they welcome to be able to spend more time with family. After 41 years in the high-stress restaurant business, Kathy looks forward to sharing morning coffee with Lance in the shop and bringing the dogs to work," the release said.
The couple credits Urban Living and Development and owner/developer of the property, Rusty Thompson, another Arkansas native, with getting them on board with his vision and what the team is developing in the area.
"You know, they're calling this 900 block the gateway to Hot Springs when you come onto Central. It's just the coolest up-and-coming place," Kathy Merriott said. "I feel like we made the right choice."
"Kathy and Lance are already friends with next-door neighbors Josh Garland, chef and owner of DONS Southern Social dinner restaurant, and Ken Dunlap from Smalls Barber Shop & Shave Parlor in the same block, who are also Urban Living and Development Inc. lessees," the release said.
Amber Henson and staff at Urban Living and Development Inc. have brokered over 25 new downtown Hot Springs leases since 2018. "For more information and to be part of the rapidly expanding real estate growth in Hot Springs, contact Amber Henson at Urban Living and Development Inc. at 501-352-7670."
